The Women’s Initiative for Self Empowerment (WISE), Inc. has announced a new program, Professional Refugee Recertification Program, and said it is seeking participants for this program.

This program assists refugees who have been in the United States less than five years and who were educated and licensed in other countries, said a press statement issued Thursday.

“This program offers free assistance to refugees with becoming licensed to practice their trained professions in Minnesota, or in the alternative, developing alternative career pathways.  WISE works with refugees who were doctors, nurses, lawyers, accountants, teachers, and engineers in their own countries.”

The statement said that through a combination of English language conversation classes, credentialing, scholarship assistance, mentoring, small group work, licensure navigation, and case management, the Professional Refugee Recertification Program gives refugee participants a framework for becoming licensed to practice their trained professions in Minnesota.

“If licensure requirements are difficult to meet for an individual refugee, WISE will work with a refugee participant to develop a suitable career pathway,” added the statement.

For more information about becoming a participant in this program, the organization asked the interested individuals to contact Dr. Wilhelmina Holder at 651-646-3268.

The WISE is a nonprofit organization that serves as a vehicle for social, economic, and leadership empowerment for immigrant women and girls.  Our mission is to empower immigrant women and girls to succeed.
