OBCA to hold annual convention in Cincinnati,OH


The Organization of Bhutanese Communities in America (OBCA) and the Bhutanese Community of Cincinnati (BCC) issued a joint statement Sunday to hold 6th national convention of OBCA in  Cincinnati, Ohio, July 8 to 10, 2016.

In the press statement received by BNS, OBCA has stated that Bhutanese community of Cincinnati (BCC) is partnering as the host community this year. OBCA and BCC have formed their separate committees to oversee the management of three days long event.

OBCA committee is headed by its secretary Padam Bharati while fifteen member program organizing committee is led by BCC chairman Khem Rizal.

The convention is aimed to commemorate the successful resettlement process of the former refugees from Bhutan with their success stories. Comprehensive panel discussion on social issues among the community members in different states and cities is expected to dominate the convention.

In association with local artists from Bhutanese Community of Cincinnati and Bhutanese Artist in America, cultural shows, social and literary presentations shall be other attractions of the convention. OBCA is nominating its state and city delegates by this convention.

Speaking with BNS, OBCA president, DB Rai said, “We want to discuss the matter of mutual cooperation and unity among community organizations with all. This organization strives to move ahead with support from the people and Bhutanese organizations in diaspora.

However, he declined to reveal the possibilities of consolidating Association of Bhutanese in America (ABA) and OBCA. “We don’t have any plan on merging ABA and OBCA,” he added.
