Int’l day of disabled persons observed

The 19th International Day of People with Disability was observed in all seven camps of Jhapa and Morang districts, Friday.

The Disability Center under Caritas Nepal organized various programs in each camp to mark the day of disabled people.

The center in coordination with various camp stakeholders organized a rally in Goldhap camp this morning. Around, 500 people took part in the rally.

The rally displayed various placards with slogans related to disabilities – disabled people are equally capable as others and promote the rights of disabled, among others.

This day is a United Nations sanctioned day that aims to promote an understanding of people with disability and encourage support for their dignity, rights and well-being.

The day also seeks to increase awareness of the benefits of the integration of people with disability in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

The slogan for this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is celebrated on December 3 every year, is, “Keeping the promise: Mainstreaming disability in the Millennium Development Goals towards 2015 and beyond”.
