Gelephu Dungpa beats Christian pastor, threatens to kill him

Gelephu Dungpa Pema Wangda hit one of the Bhutanese Christian pastors, Pema Sherpa, on his forehead and chest on Tuesday, and threatened to finish him if he did not comply with the authority to stop preaching christianity in the kingdom.

One of Sherpa’s friends has been quoted as reporting to various media immediate after the action. It is learnt that that the Dungpa even took out his patang (sword) and threatened to kill the pastor.

Including Sherpa, four pastors were summoned by the Dungpa, who attacked the pastor after the three others had left.

No any government authority has furnished details regarding the warning and physical punishment.

Since the constitution has accepted only Buddhist and Hindu as regions, Bhutanese Christians have been facing tough situations in the country.

  1. I believe our friends should kicked out those Tibetans( Conservative Nalongs) back to Tibet, otherwise, the value of GNH and principle of Buddhism would sounds funny.

This is another solid example to prove that practice of Human Right in Bhutan , and survival of Democracy in Bhutan is only an illusion!

Let us get united to preserve the value and spirit of our nation. Let us fight against these Bureaucrats of Wangchucks to maintain trust, understanding, and brotherhood between different religion, believes, culture, and dialect here in Bhutan!

Bhutan does not hold the property of similar triangles.

  2. This is an example of compassion practiced by Buddhist kingdom of Bhutan. What a shame on religious freedom. Jigme Thinley should now tell the world how GNH is being practiced in Bhutan where authorities hate and persecute followers of other religions whereas millions are spent on the one practiced by them. Shame on this blatant discrimination? The christian community the world over open your mouth and protest this nonsense in Bhutan.

  3. First of all, I wish speedy recovery of pastor, Pema Sherpa. In the mean time, I feel sorry to the people in Bhutan for not being able to live a free life as others in the world. The government which has been successful in selling the hollow concept of the so called Gross National Happiness to the outside world has not stopped to terrorize and dictate people within the country. What a model of democracy and happiness!

  4. this is what international community and human right origination should think about, same issue about religions about bhutanese people leaving in refugee camp in nepal.this is what bhutan democracy and right and freedom.

  5. If Hindu’s & Christian’s cannot get along what’s the point of bhutanese refugee’s so anxious to refuge to The Usa? In America is the home of all religions it’s very ignorant for you to hate another religion when the other religions are the ones who are helping bhutanese refugee’s. You accept food stamps and assistance and eat the food that they provide but you show no respect towards to their religion. You need to respect someones religion inorder for them to respect yours. Make a example

  6. I pray for Pastor Pema Sherpa for his healing of wounds. And I am sure Pastor Pema Sherpa and many like him will not inch backward even if they are to be executed for God will judge their work and each one of us will be in His mercy one day even Gelephu Dungpa, Pema Wangda will be there after his death.

Secondly, I write this again “Time bell is ringing in Bhutan for the Almighty God to depute His disciples the children of The God to deal with such Satan.” Not only Christian but all the peace loving people of the world Hindu, Buddhist, Islam or of any faith should condemn Bhutan atrocities and make them pay for such inhuman acts.

  7. This act alone is sufficient proof to the quality of Democracy in Bhutan. If the Dungpa in question is not dealt for such arrogance and misbehavior, democracy remains like a cedar plant in the small pot owned by some demoniac for their pleasure.
Unless the bottom of the pot is whacked and the pot transferred to ground with thick moist soil, the plant of democracy will be smothered in the pot. It cannot survive or grow alongside brutal order that subjects it to its whims. If Democracy is Government of the people, for the people and by the people, it is yet to pave way to its right.
Threatening or killing some persons cannot eradicate the perceived dread but will only prove as solid evidence of avowal against the cause that is hated. As such, this show the authorities are in war perceiving the variance as threat against their narrow views. It is how the self proclaimed Buddhists kill their own Buddha in the Christians or persons of other faith than those committed to the worship of arts and crafts.

That said, there is no need to call for the help of another evil sect of devil’s path called Islam to help the cause of the Christians anywhere in the world. They have enough blood of Jews and Christians in their hand over the last 1400 years, with their adulterous mother called as CATHOLIC under the command of the Roman pontiff.

  9. Dear Lobsang Tshering Bahadur,
Yes Nanglong are origin of Tibet…settled in Bhutan. We are Bhutanese now and still proudly living in Bhutan . We love Bhutan and had/have been protecting and preserving the proud Identity /tradition and security of the Bhutan in the history of Bhutan and pledge to do so till our last breath.
What about you…? who told you to go back to Nepal..?if you are genuine Bhutanese.
Take the example of Grokhaland movement. The people of
Darjeeling never ran away from Darjelling, In fact they fought/faced mighty Indian troops .It has proved that.. they are genuine and proud citizen of Darejeeling.

  10. I appreciate your views, Sonam Lama. We cannot co-exist with divisive mentality. We are Bhutanese irrespective of our ethnic background and must all look to the peaceful future with sound integration. We are not to hate or kick one another in anger as it will give enough energy for the pendulum of problem to prolong the swing.

  11. I would like to add some points on comments of Sonam Lama. The job done by Dumpa was real and correct for the protectation of own religion and indentity . I had read one news that one of the american company Printed Budha photos on wearing shoe. Do you think that was justice for diclple of budha and his eight fold path. Here by i requst Dumpa to search other people and punish them too. Christianity is not our by birth religion.
    Thanks
    Kranti

  12. We can put everything into our own perspectives. Gelegphu dungpa, a Buddhist, only bet a pastor who pobably have violated the law or posed a threat to other or brought about disturbance in the community. But the Canadian police, who is a Christan, killed a lay Hindu. While I don’t gloat over the unfortunate incidents in both cases, I strongly condemn this illogical blame without actually knowing the reasons behind the incident.

  13. Sonam lama, you are so interesting! I am here in East and you are in central Bhutan. Here the question is not about who is the native of this country, the question is whose proud Identity /tradition ?

I am Sharshop, but what did your Wangchuck king did to our proud Identity /tradition? No thing other than suppression. Your bias Wangchuck uncle had/have been protecting and preserving the Identity /tradition of Nalongs!

Am I not allowed to practice what I believe?

  14. This is a solid example of one kingdom, one policy, druk kingdom which has been claiming that the perception of Gross National Happiness on the eye of the international world is immensly threatening, harrasing, torturing, and teaching his only budhism, however his majestry has declared Bhutan as the kingdom of buddhist and hindu.how does this behaviour and acts of the Dungpa protects the religious perceptions and tolerance???This kind of religious hate should be condemn internationally and tough sanctions should be immediately initiated to degrade the arising religious hate in the druk kingdom. All followers of christianity, hinduism, islamic and all human right activist has to be united to condemn this religious hate crime and justice has to be given to the Sherpa pastor.

  15. all above fools are debating with notion and making mass out of small issue, in clear view i will not support dungpa as pure Buddhist, or pastor as pure Cristian in WAYS
if the pastor didn’t make a mass why dung pa had to lose his anger
who ever lose the control of self is not perfect Buddhist at all
being a pastor why he had to influence other to incise his devote, so in today world word religion is same as market of commercial venture, please belive me or not
true religious person dont have time for this type of mass
as its own faith where one is born and brought up how u had improvise your own self is main important, not to compare who is who, your own self improvement and implement compassionate mind is important., to my knowledge please team your own ego ignorance greed so no religion debate will come in feature

  16. mr chan
u are dumpiest of all above writer, how directly u support the sherpa
the word Sherpa it self is Buddhist ethic by birth and there are many Sherpa who converted there religion just for money, when greed applies it not faithful devote any religion
can u define me what is Buddhism, you knowledge about religion, on surface please.

  17. Dear all the comment writers, what a fool you guys are behind religion inside the country Bhutan. you people are simply seeing who is following what religion and who converted in what religion? don’t you all don’t see prosecution to the public? Don’t you all see things happening against Human rights and democracy. The same activity had applied up on Hindu also before 22 years that is why all the Hindu were forced to shelter in river Mai at Jhapa Nepal. Don’t cruel to each others religion but explore to the world what Bhutan Government is doing today what they done before 22 years to Bhutanese refugee. If you people support to these cruel Government like you commented above then our people inside the country will never feel freedom.

  18. Hey everyone; Hindu, Buddhist or Christian, the issue here is not a religion but it is about TRUTH. Its very hard to digest the truth, Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one can come to my father except through me”.( John 14:6).
Whatever Dungpa Pema Wangdi has committed is forgivable but not forgettable. It is not his mistake, simply the truth is coming to pass; God has started His intervention in Bhutan. I am pretty sure Pema Wangdi is coming closer to Jesus by doing what he did. You read the history of Bible, whoever have prosecuted the Christians have surrendered themselves to Him. Honourable Jawarlal Nerhu had said, ‘Christians are sleeping tigers; better touch them not”.
Look at the Christianity history of Bhutan itself, Tshirang is the worst place ever to prosecute the Christians, you have the maximum underground churches in Tshirang Bhutan. Definitely Gelephu will be the second in Christian population. Because you are not fighting against a poor Christian but against Almighty God of heaven. You might come up with strong comments towards this, you are well come. I conclude in anticipation that you too are not so far from is love arrest.
As for Pastor Pema Sherpa, I congratulate you for being in the highlight in the kingdom of God. You are always the head not the tail. As Apostle Paul has said the warfare is not yours, its God’s. For we do not wrestle against blood and flesh, but against the principalities, authorities and the evil spirits. Keep up the great works. We are behind you and your Church. People around the world are praying for you. Remember the words of Jesus, we are not to fear the one who destroys the body, we are to fear the one who can destroy the entire soul. Put on every weapons of God mentioned in Eph 6:12-18. Finally everyone ‘For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten son; that whosoever believe Him shall not perish but have an everlasting life.John 3:16.
    Always loved by Him
    Genuine.

  19. I appreciate the comments of Mr. Jenuen. I think you are right to some points which are ever truth. I born in Bhutan and that time there were very rear christian and they use to go to Church in India boarder. But now there are thousands of Churches inside the country. But I have not seen Buddhist converted in to Christain and Hindu also but people from Hindu and Buddhist are converting into Christianity. So I think there is no doubt one day every one will kneeled down before Jesus Christ.

  20. I think,it is not a religious issue but it is a political issue and a matter of envy.Reason why I am telling is that,Bhutan is a small, underdeveloped, poor and a feeble country but it has a natural beauty of it’s own.The authority of Bhutan thought that,if they allow right to religion other than Buddhists,His majesty scared of being invaded by Giant country like India,Powerful and wealthy country like America and wealthy country like Britain. He banned the Christianity to be flourished in Bhutan. He had banned the Hinduism too but later He knew that it is not a good idea to make God -mother angry. From that day to still today,Christians are being treated very bad.Eveyone in the country has that feeling,Christianity is a low level religion and they prosecuted them Threatened to kill them even had killed them in the past too.Eg: is here in this article. The beast Dungpa tries to kill innocent Pastor.Because they think that,Christianity is a western country’s religion. When somebody says “America”they say they are Christians.Bhutan HATES the Christans, indirectly Bhutan is HATING the Americans.Bhutan HATES the Christianity, indirectly Bhutan is HATING the AMERICA.In fact,Bhutan is jealous of one of the powerful and richest Christian country in the World.Don’t worry Mr.Sherpa,Powerful and richest Christian country and it’s people are in your side.May God bless you abundantly.

  21. Dear Mr. Brian Jackson,
Frist of all, I understand that you are trying to be supportive of the christians in Bhutan.. but you are also condemning our Country Bhutan and our King and glorifying America… which I donot appreciate that and you should really think before you write. If you are a Christian then you should know that Bible teaches us that we should bless people who persecute us and not condem them. Just because of one dungpas action u are writing against our country and King…
I am a christian in Bhutan in Gelephu and I know Pas. Pema Sherpa… whatever the Dungpa did was outrageous… but we still respect him as our Dungpa and pray for him that he comes to know the saving Grace of Lord Jesus..

I dont know where you are from and I think your real name is not Brian because ur English is very bad but dont write on the basis of what you have heard.. yes some times Christians are not treated right and people think we are lowly … but its ok we can deal with that because Bible says that Jesus was persecuted and so will we be….
thank you for your concern but we i.e christians living in Bhutan really do not appreciate when people talk bad about our country or our King. We are Bhutanese Christians and we love our country and King.
Our country is developing country not underdeveloped and we are not poor and feeble.. .. and be it Mr. Pema or any christians in Bhutan we dont need richest and powerful country s help… we want God to be with us.. for we donot put our hope in strength of men or country but God alone.

  22. Dear Mr. X (in His Servive),

Thank you so much for your comments.I know my English is not good. But I felt bad, because your English is not as good as mine either.Anyway I am sorry for saying bad things about your Country and The King.I respect and honor your king too.Remember one thing, the quality of a good king is to:keep peace and happiness in the country. All the subjects are same in the eye of the king.If the king respects Buddhist and hates Christian that is not called Peace but it is called delusion.Do not give any advantages to India because it is waiting for an opportunity to devour Bhutan and make one of the State of India.I have heard an Indian guy said,Bhutan is One of the state of India so please be careful. No more prosecution in this 21st century because we are in new God’s law which gives us freedom.God bless his majesty with his folks abundantly.

  23. Dear Bhutan,
to protect from kneel down from jesu we are proecting our own religion and indentity.Thats why Dungpa is angry.
I know most of refugees are converted to christan due some financial help from Christan community ,some from with family.
But where don want such type of activities to happen here

  24. screw the dungpa..as the name itself means dung of pa..you know what I mean..poop of dad or shit of dad..see..that stinks..for ngalong lemme expln..it means apa gi awa..haha..anyways pastor sherpa may jesus bless you
