Druk National Congress (DNC) has welcomed the release of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi by the military regime in Myanmar.

Issuing a press statement Monday, DNC chairman Rongthong Kunley Dorji said, “Her release is an inspiration to democracy loving citizens.”

He further said, DNC salutes her spirit and prays that the aspiration of genuine democracy in Myanmar is realized under her leadership.

Myanmar’s pro-democracy leader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, was freed from house arrest on Saturday, setting her on the path to a possible new confrontation with the generals who had kept her out of the public eye for 15 of the past 21 years.

  1. Thanks to DNC chairman for issuing the statement on behalf of bhutanese.
There are unknown number of Political prisoners in Bhutanese prisons and their unconditional amnesty would be possible if we can campaign co-ordinatedly.

  2. It was fitting gesture on part of Mr. Dorji.

Madam Suu Kyi has spend better part of her life in Bhutan.

Her husband, Micheal Aris scholarly researches has been our country’s source of History.

I prays that her freedom is not short lived. Long live Madam.

  3. I have been reading about Madam Aung. Few years back, I felt suffocated when I contemplated about her prison life despite of her landslide victory in 1989. She spent 15 years in prison and house arrest, which was a daunting task. She is my hero, my role model,I draw lots of inspirations from her lives.

Thank You, Dasho Rongthong Kinley Dorji for welcoming Aung San Suu Kyi’s unconditional release.I pray my guardian deity for her permanent freedom and her well being. Let, the king of Bhutan also follow this example from the Myanmar’s Junta and release the Bhutanese leaders, who have been languishing in Bhutanese jails since 1989.
    Thanks

  4. Mr.Rongthong Kunley Dorji welcoming the release of Aung San Suu Kyi’s release is what asprirants of democracy in the south Asian region are exchanging their solidarity to one another. Mr.Dorji, himself under arrest in India, has taken a oppurtune moment to welcome the release of a South Asian leader who has been close to Bhutan in her early days. Suu Kyi’s release is the good gesture to overcome the tyranny in Burma and let democracy shine for all ethnic communities of Burma. This is a lesson to the Bhutanese oligarchy and democracy leaders as well that it always takes some pain for a leader to win. But Suu Kyi’s release is just a means not an end.
