Striker Kasun Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka scored a hat-trick, Ediri Channa bagged a brace and midfielder Chathura Gunaratne also got on the score sheet.
Sri Lanka opened the scoring on eighth minute when Channa kicked the ball though pass from Sanjeev into Bhutanese goalpost which Bhutan keeper Leki failed to catch.
Though Lankans dominated the entire play, Bhutan did have a great chance to level the scorers when Nawang Dhendup got a clear sight of goal but the striker missed the chance.
A few minutes later, midfielder Passang Tshering had a one on one situation with the Lanka custodian Lankasera but he delayed in taking the shot which allowed the Sri Lankan player to clear away the danger.
Second score for Sri Lanka against Bhutan recorded at 25th minute when Channa scored the goal again after converting a pass from Issadeen. In subsequent minutes, Bhutan could have pulled one back through Gyeltshen but he failed to hit the target after being well setup by Sonam Tenzing. Jayasuriya shot third goal five minutes before the break.
Bhutan was bit cautious in the second half but received no good chances in the early stages but improved their game gradually. One each shot from Bhutanese players — Gyeltshen and Nawang Dhendup – end up into the hands of the Sri Lanka keeper Lankasera.
Jayasuriya’s second score was at 66th minute and the hat-trick twelve minutes later. The final score against Bhutan was by midfielder Chathura Gunaratne in the dying times. With two losses, Bhutan is now out of hope for a semi final place so their game against Pakistan on Tuesday will only be for the pride.
In the first match, Bhutan lost to Bangladesh by 4-1 on Friday.
Bhutan was semi finalist on 2008 SAFF games.
